Meet Elysha Ferris, local Northern Beaches artist and Mother to three young children, Indy, Hugo and Daisy.

Elysha is the artist behind the bright and fun artworks that are featured at Barrenjoey House Palm Beach and The Boathouse Home.

Each painting is one of a kind, and details scenes of a summer day at the beach. We love the detail of surfers, sun bakers and colourful beach umbrellas. If you look closely, you will even notice local Northern Beaches icons such as Barrenjoey Lighthouse!

Recently, we caught up with Elysha to find out more about her creative process.

How did you discover your love of painting?

I have always painted, ever since I was a young child - if I wasn’t painting or drawing on paper, I was changing the colour of my room (sorry Mum!). As I got older and we bought our first home, we could never afford ‘real’ art, so I always painted for myself - I just never thought I would be lucky enough to paint for other people too!

What inspires the beach scenes featured in your art?

I have a love for happy, summer scenes - they make me smile and the thought of being on the beach again gets me through winter! It can be the darkest, dreariest day, and then I’ll see the beach and smile, so I love waking up each morning and seeing a happy scene brightening up my wall!

What are your favourite mediums + materials to work with?

I love trying and playing with new materials all the time, however I mainly work with acrylic paints on canvas.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I have been lucky enough to explore many different parts of the world, however I’m always drawn to the beautiful beaches on our East coast of Australia. Shoal Bay would have to be one of my favourites to visit with my family though - I have so many fond childhood memories holidaying there, and I love that my kids will hopefully feel the same.

What are your tips for finding the time to paint with three little kids?

An incredibly supportive husband! He comes home from a long week at work to look after three little kids all weekend while I paint - I couldn’t do it without him! I’m very, very lucky.
